Manama is the capital city of Bahrain and is the country's largest city with a population of approximately 155,000. Manama was mentioned in Islamic chronicles at least as far back as 1345. Adliya is the bohemian quarter of Manama. Adliya is a busy town area with many of the old traditional houses being turned into art galleries, cafes and chic restaurants. An older part of the capital, Gudaibiya is a bustling highly cosmopolitan area and home to many new arrivals in the Kingdom, as well as government offices including parliament. Hoora is the centre of Bahrain's nightlife with many bars, hotels, restaurants and nightclubs (both Arabic and western), and is very popular with Arab visitors to Bahrain. Seef is a district near the city and is a result of active reclamation work which has dramatically changed the Bahrain coastline. Zinj is a new suburb of Manama city comprised of spacious villas many overlooking the sea front and the Tubli Bay.
